We were misled financially, our items were mishandled, and the company was dismissive of us every time we contacted them. The movers they contracted with sent inadequate equipment and understaffed. The best thing I can say was that they delivered about 90% of our belongings.

You were asked for a quote to move a 500 square foot apartment, you offered $3k, and you charged $9k. You literally offered a discount if you were paid under the table. You are an incredibly shady company and I have no idea how you got this many bots to give positive reviews to your little business considering that you stopped taking calls as soon as the debacle was in motion.

We have nothing but good things to say about the movers from Menards Moving. The team made our entire move seamless. They arrived prepared with all necessary packing materials, ensuring that even our fragile glassware was handled with care. Plus their attention to detail was commendable – each box was labeled clearly with its contents. It made unpacking a breeze too. We wouldn’t think twice about hiring them again!
Menards Moving and Storage makes no guarantees regarding the accuracy of quotes, prices, or delivery times. Final costs may vary significantly from initial estimates due to unexpected issues, including but not limited to weight discrepancies, last-minute charges, or delays. While we attempt to provide timely and efficient services, customers have reported inconsistent communication and unaddressed problems throughout the moving process.

“We were misled financially, our items were mishandled, and the company was dismissive of us every time we contacted them. The movers they contracted with sent inadequate equipment and understaffed.” – Kate Phillippo

The best thing I can say was that they delivered about 90% of our belongings. The company responds to negative reviews by criticizing the people making the complaint and essentially accusing them of being cheap and deceiving the estimators, so be ready for that.

Our initial estimate for a cross-country move on July 1 was $7890.46 and the QA estimate we received four days later was $10649.50. I was told by Menards administrators that there’s no way anyone could know the accurate content of a move or make an accurate estimate by phone, and yet the QA estimator employed by Menards estimated it much more accurately, also by phone, also based on a verbal description of the items, and after the 48 hours in which I could have cancelled without penalty had passed. The cost went up once the truck was full, but that adjustment (while still costing more) was more minor and seemed more in line with the difference between a phone estimate and an actual loaded truck.

The individuals on the moving crews we worked with were decent people and worked extremely hard but they were understaffed and under equipped.

We never received an itemized inventory list–something required by the FMCSA–even though we asked both crews and called Mendards multiple times, being told each time it would be sent and it never was. One Mendards employee told me that an inventory list that corresponded to labels on items was something that “more expensive companies” do. We were also not asked to sign our final bill at delivery and were given no documentation.

The moving crew at delivery was severely understaffed. A crew of 2 moved us in over the course of two full days. My friend who met the truck for us ended up moving items once the movers delivered them to the door because the movers were exhausted and overwhelmed to the point that he was concerned about their safety. Before they could unload, they had to unload the large trailer truck they could not safely drive into our neighborhood because of train tracks (a well known part of any large move into our new city) with no other assistance. The walls of our stairwell got scuffed, dinged and marked up during the load out, to which the crew said, “The insurance will cover that.”

Several boxes were ripped. Many items went missing or sustained damage: a wooden coffee table (a leg broke off and part of the leg was not recovered, the surface was scratched), one missing dining room chair, one broken dining room chair, a missing stepladder, 2 missing fans, a missing box of vinyl LPs and 2 missing legs to an easy chair. Multiple items arrived with scratches (bookshelves, record shelves, multiple dressers). Our wooden corhnole game had one of the stand legs broken off at the joint where it was screwed in. Our stereo receiver has had one channel damaged. We ended up doing a local move a few months after arriving in our new town, and the local movers pointed out all the damages they noted to our furniture so that they would not be held accountable. When we told them the damage took place in the cross-country move, they were appalled and said they’d never seen any items in such bad condition after a move.

I attempted several times to get the company to revisit the discrepancy between the initial and final estimate, and to provide us an inventory list. They either said they would and then did not, or told me why I was wrong. Any call to the moving company involved either waiting for the phone to be answered (I was told once that I had to let it ring until someone answered, which often took from 3-10 minutes), or waiting on hold which took up to 25 minutes per call.

(11/20 Response to owner’s reply: Damaged/nearly destroyed boxes are one of many concerns. Menards raised the initial estimate by 34%, not the carrier. I have already written Menards several times including last week. I’d be very happy to receive a reply.)

“Avoid Menards Moving and Storage at all costs. This company turned our move into a nightmare. Despite making two payments totaling $2,264 in good faith, our quoted price skyrocketed to over $9,000 on moving day due to miscommunication and mismanagement.” – Amanda Labrado

They failed to honor their “binding” estimate and ignored clear documentation of our items, leading to unreasonable additional charges.

Communication was abysmal. Movers arrived late and unprepared, demanding payment in cash or via apps instead of the agreed-upon credit card. When we refused to pay the inflated amount, the company was unresponsive and failed to resolve the situation, forcing us to make alternative arrangements.

Attempts to rectify this with Menards Moving and Storage, including contacting the BBB, were met with rude customer service and no resolution. Their owner, despite claiming to assist, has not followed through.

Do not trust this broker. Save yourself the stress and work directly with a reputable moving company.

***Response to owners response***
I did talk about you as the broker. As the broker, your employees did not document information correctly and they provided inaccurate information. I provided a complete list of my belongings both over the phone and through text. I still have the text messages, which were given to your company.
I am not a hoarder. Everything was boxed, organized and ready in the garage for the actual movers to load into the truck except a few pieces of furniture which I could not move into the garage by myself. I have the pictures of the house and garage on moving day to prove this. Before making assumptions of a person, you should ensure that what you are stating is truthful. Nothing about my review was a lie. I would have left a very detailed review of everything that happened with times and names except Google has a limit to the amount of room for the review.
Bashing customers that have tried to rectify the situation with you as the broker is not the way to win potential new customers.

Worst experience ever. My brother passed away, and we needed immediate service. We contracted with Menards. They completely low bid guaranteed us. The moving company showed up wanted an extra $4000.They went to their truck to call dispatch and left us. Menards refused to answer our calls. We had to dispute the credit card charge because they wouldn’t refund our deposit money. Don’t use these thieves, they are nothing but a big scam.

Update – 6 weeks later, they disputed my credit card dispute. They’re still trying to charge me for a move that never happened. These guys are thieves.. And they are still responding that they will fight me for this charge because I signed a Contract. The contract said you would provide movers and you did not. You cannot prove that you provided the service, you were in breach of contract.
We went with a wonderful company called Express Van Lines. They actually provided every service mentioned in their contract. And we paid them nicely.

The movers they had contracted showed up, and left. They didn’t send new movers. We had to call another company.

Menards still has my number blocked.. and is fighting me for $1200 for a service they didn’t provide. Nice way for a company to treat a grieving family.

“Menards is a broker using several other moving companies so you don’t know who you are getting until the day of the move. I was provided a binding moving estimate of $14,719 for an interstate move from California to Arizona. On the day of the move……” – Amanda Labrado

Menards is a broker using several other moving companies so you don’t know who you are getting until the day of the move. I was provided a binding moving estimate of $14,719 for an interstate move from California to Arizona. On the day of the move, the actual movers, United Prime Van Lines, wanted to charge me an extra $10,000. Joseph, Menards’ owner, supposedly negotiated them down to an extra $5,000, which I paid.

However, I wonder if it was just a scam to get another $5,000. Of the 4 people who came to move us, only 2 spoke English. The main guy was very rude. They ended up taking all of my medications which were not in a cardboard box, just a wicker basket. This was critical because my stuff was in storage for a month. On moving day, they moved all the boxes to the street, blocking my neighbor’s driveway for the entire day.

They were supposed to bring 2 moving vans to the site. Instead they brought one, went to their storage facility, unloaded the truck and came back to reload. This cost us a lot of time. They didn’t finish until almost 10 pm. Plus they did not take everything they were supposed to.

We ended up renting U-hauls and drove the rest of the stuff there ourselves. When it came time for the delivery from United’s storage, the delivery was on 2 different days about a week apart and not exactly to my convenience but I rearranged my schedule because I was tired of dealing with all the problems and I just wanted my furniture. The men that came for the subsequent deliveries were much nicer and spoke English. There were several large furniture items that ended up cracked, dented or badly scratched. I would not recommend using these companies unless you enjoy aggravation.

“Do not use this company. I was quoted a fair price ($3700) and then a week before the movers came, they increased the price by $1000. THEN when the movers came he quoted me $9500!!! The mover spoke to the Chase at Menards and brought the price down to $7500…….” – Amanda Labrado

The movers that picked up my stuff from Fast Transportation, told me my things would be delivered on Friday (it was Monday), so I was prepared for the shipment on Friday and then I called Menards on Friday and they said it would be delivered Saturday. I waited all day on and got a call on Saturday afternoon and they said it would be there until Sunday.

When the movers from Fast Transportation arrived on Sunday at 1PM, they said I filled out the money order wrong and would not unload my stuff until I paid the balance due with a new money order, Zelle, or cash, mind you, this was on a Sunday. I had to run around looking for ATM machine that would dispense me $2000.
It was the worst moving nightmare I ever experienced and a retired Vet that has moved many times in my life.

Menards Moving & Pricing: How m,uch it costs to move

Menards Moving and Storage stands out for offering free quotes and competitive, transparent pricing. We also offer a price-match guarantee if you find a lower quote from another moving company. Additionally, we provide discounts for service members and an early-bird deal.

Menards even gave Joshua $400 off for booking his 2023 move from New Jersey to New Orleans over the phone. While that’s a great incentive — and Menards does have a thorough process for calculating accurate quotes, even by phone — we recommend in-person or virtual estimates whenever possible to avoid surprise charges due to miscalculations.

Joshua would certainly agree with our recommendation. His initial over-the-phone quote increased by almost $1,000 on moving day because he underestimated the total weight of his belongings in his 675-square-foot, one-bedroom apartment.

The good news is that Menards now requires video surveys for all moves as part of our triple-check verification process. While a virtual walk-through with a moving rep will take a little extra time, it’s worth it in the long run to get an estimate that closely matches your final price. Our moving reps are skilled at itemizing household goods, estimating your move size, and anticipating any additional expenses, such as long-carry or stair fees.
